Vision 2020 Adds New National Allies to Nationwide Campaign for Equality
Three national organizations have joined Vision 2020's rallying call to achieve women's equality in the United States by the year 2020: The League of Women Voters, the Association for Women in Science and Athena International.
PHILADELPHIA, PA, December 15, 2011 /Womens Interest PR News/ -- Three national organizations have joined Vision 2020's rallying call to achieve women's equality in the United States by the year 2020: The League of Women Voters, the Association for Women in Science and Athena International.
These organizations join 43 Vision 2020 National Allies, which are national groups that endorse Vision 2020's mission and are working on similar goals. Director of Drexel University College of Medicine's Institute for Women's Health and Leadership and Founder and Co-Chair of Vision 2020 Lynn Yeakel described the addition of these National Allies as "a significant step forward to raise awareness about gender inequities on a national scale."
"These three organizations share Vision 2020's commitment to advance women's leadership across professions and issues," Yeakel said.
Vision 2020 is a project of the Institute for Women's Health and Leadership at Drexel University College of Medicine. It launched, in 2010, a decade of activity to achieve equality by the year 2020 the centennial of women's suffrage. Five national goals have been set to advance women's equality:
Achieve pay equity
Increase the number of women in senior leadership positions
Promote family-friendly workplace policies and practices
Educate new generations of girls and boys to respect each other
Mobilize women voters
Two women leaders from each of the 50 states and the District of Columbia are developing and implementing initiatives in their areas to achieve the five goals. To learn more about these initiatives, visit drexel.edu/vision2020/goals/initiatives/.
