New York Civil Rights Violation Lawyer Comments on Staten Island Ferry Sexual Harassment Lawsuit
New York civil rights violation lawyer David Perecman comments on a sexual harassment lawsuit filed by a former Staten Island Ferry employee and reported on by the New York Daily News.
NEW YORK, NY, December 15, 2011 /Womens Interest PR News/ -- A 34-year old former Staten Island Ferry employee filed a sexual harassment lawsuit in New York alleging that she was fired from her job for complaining that she was being sexually harassed in the workplace, according to the New York Daily News. (12/2/2011)
Jennette Suarez claimed that fellow deckhands leered at her "intimate body parts" and made "slurping, smacking" noises at her.
According to the NYDN, Suarez was the only female deckhand in the Staten Island ferry fleet at the time of the alleged sexual harassment.
"Women who work in traditionally male-dominated workplaces can be particularly susceptible to sexual harassment. Regardless, all women deserve to work without being harassed because of their gender," said New York civil rights violation lawyer David Perecman, founder of The Perecman Firm, one of New York's civil rights law firms.
Suarez claimed passengers were victims of gender harassment, as well, reported the NY tabloid.
According to the NYDN, the New York sexual harassment lawsuit also details how ferry employees would use high-tech cameras to zoom "down a women's blouse or up a woman's skirt" and use their radios to alert colleagues to attractive women, while using "offensive and disrespectful language."
Victims of sexual harassment in New York may be eligible to receive compensation for lost wages or any damages resulting from the harassment, including emotional distress, said New York civil rights violation lawyer Perecman.
